Learn from a UBC professor and experienced undergraduate students about research at UBC. Featuring a diverse variety of lab tours to familiarize you with the research setting.
About the Workshop
Through a workshop led by a UBC professor and a student researcher, gain a better understanding of securing a position in an academic lab, as well as what criteria professors look for when hiring students. Additionally, the workshop will discuss skills you may gain from an undergraduate research position.
After the workshop, go on lab tours to get an idea of what it is like to be in a research facility. Guided by experienced researchers, the lab tour section will give you the chance to experience two or three different types of labs on campus. Labs include: Biology, CAPS, Chemistry, Medicine (Neurosciences), Microbiology, Biophysics, and Physics.
- Describe what a typical lab layout looks like
- Become familiar with 1 technique or piece of equipment that is used in a research lab on campus
- Explain the organization of individuals in labs (ie. undergrads, master/PhD students, principal investigators, etc.)
