Gary Hinshaw, recruited to UBC last year from NASA, has been named the new Canada Research Chair in Observational Cosmology. The new chair joins three renewals within the Faculty.
Hinshaw's work at UBC will include building two new radio observatories to explore the large scale properties of the Universe: its origin, evolution and ultimate fate.
This year's three new appointments and six renewals at UBC are valued at $9.9 million and bring the university’s total number of Canada Research Chairs to 186, the nation’s second largest complement. UBC Science holds 49 of those chairs.
