Raymond Anderson, a leading marine natural product chemist with both Chemistry and Earth and Ocean Sciences, has received the 2012 Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) Medal. The CIC Medal is given annually to a researcher who has made an outstanding contribution to the science of chemistry in Canada.
Andersen identifies and investigates the structure of novel chemical compounds derived from marine organisms, the molecular routes to their biosynthesis, their role in ocean ecology, and their potential as new drugs.
The CIC is a national association uniting chemistry, chemical engineering and chemical technology professionals from across Canada. It serves as the umbrella organization for the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC), the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering (CSChE), and the Canadian Society for Chemical Technology.
Andersen will present his award lecture at the upcoming CIC Conference in Calgary in June.
