A science competition held at UBC this week pits more than 100 Vancouver middle school students against one another in a quiz show-style battle of wits, and in hands-on challenges.
The All Science Challenge, this Friday, is a day-long competition for Grade 6 and 7 students from across the Greater Vancouver Regional District. The event also features hands-on competitions that include bridge building, Morse code challenges, and electric circuit design.
Hosted by UBC science students who volunteer with the award-winning Let’s Talk Science program, the Challenge is a fun-filled day of competition and camaraderie that’s part of a nationwide effort to excite and inspire the next generation of scientists.
UBC Science, Shaw Cablesystems, 3M, and the Canada Foundation for Innovation are sponsoring this year's competition, which tests students in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, earth and environmental science, engineering, mathematics, psychology and physics.
Top teams will go head-to-head at the morning game show, hosted by UBC master's student Allison McDonald. McDonald hosted the University of New Brunswick's first All Science Challenge last year.
The All Science Challenge is currently being held at 11 universities across Canada.
