The Mineral Deposit Research Unit (MDRU) has won the Leo Derikx Synergy Award for Innovation. Presented by the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council.
The award honours the most outstanding achievements of industry–university collaborations across Canada.
On October 29th, Director Richard Tosdal attended the award ceremony in Ottawa to receive a $25,000 research grant on behalf of MDRU for their successful partnership in mineral exploration with Kennecott Canada Exploration Inc., Teck Cominco Limited, and Barrick Gold Corporation. MDRU is a collaborative venture between the mining industry and UBC, and part of the Dept. of Earth and Ocean Sciences. This year, UBC–industry partnerships won three of seven NSERC Synergy Awards.
