Web Manual: Profile

screenshot of an example profile page

This is an example image of the Profile content type page. Below are the corresponding fields to the numbered sections of the image above:

  1. First Name: This is a mandatory field and part of the title of the page. You'll note that this also appears on the right sidebar.
  2. Last Name: This is a mandatory field and part the title of the page. You'll note that this also appears on the right sidebar.
  3. Job Title: This field is for the job title of a staff member (ie. Administrative Assistant)or title of a professor (ie. Assistant Professor, Chemistry). You'll note that this also appears on the right sidebar.
  4. Accreditation, Credentials: This field is for staff who have accreditation (ie. Jay Doe, MSc)
  5. Pronouns: This is an open text field to add preferred pronouns.
  6. Bio: This is the open wysiwyg area (body text area) where you can include further details of their job or research. It is identical to body section of the other content types. You can find instructions on the wysiwyg here.
  7. Profile Image: Upload an image here. The field will automatically crop your image to a square. It would be advisable to pre-crop your image to a square shape before uploading so that the automated crop doesn't cut off part of the person's face.
  8. Email: Insert the preferred email contact for the person.
  9. Phone: Insert the preferred phone contact for the person.
  10. Sidebar Link(s): You can insert a URL with the Link text in the sidebar. This field is useful if you would like to include a professor's research website, profile page on another department website, or anything similar that is relevant to their work at UBC.

There are some fields that are also not visible on the Profile type page, but can be important:

  • Summary: This area is for a summary of your Profile in 160 characters. It is not visible on the Profile page itself. It may come up on other aggregate pages that collect all of the profiles onto one page.
  • On the right hand side, there is also a Metadata section that might include tags if they're relevant to your website. You can also adjust the URL alias here if needed.
    • Note: if you cannot find the tags you're looking for, please contact Sarah at chen@science.ubc.ca

Best practices for the Bio type:

Use this content type to highlight your program/unit/departments active team members. This includes faculty, staff, and student teams.

  • If you're thinking of highlighting alumni or student stories, please use the blog function instead. (ex. Alumni Profiles)
  • If you have a small team, a page type with cards might make more sense. (ex. Meet the Team on the FYF website)
