Course Bundle Early Registration

UBC Science is invested in your success. Your first year of the BSc is a time for you to ignite your passion for science and spark new interests. First year students take a combination of core science courses and electives and there is a lot of flexibility in your course options for first year.

What is Course Bundle Early Registration?

You pick your courses and we register you for them!

After first year students accept their offer to UBC Science, they can request to be registered into a bundle of first year courses before regular registration opens in late June. With Course Bundle Early Registration, you will be registered to take a number of first year science courses together with the same group of other Science students.

Why Choose Course Bundle Early Registration?

By requesting a course bundle, you simplify your registration process. Your course bundle will make it easier to connect with new friends, which can help you successfully transition to university. We designed Course Bundle Early Registration to create small supportive learning communities within the Faculty of Science to enhance students’ learning and wellbeing.

The nature of bundling your courses so that you're registered with a group means that you do not choose your course section or the time of your bundled courses. If you prefer to be registered into a different section/time for a course than your course bundle, you'll be able to swap sections (pending available space) for one or more courses once your registration appointment opens.

Eligibility for Course Bundle Early Registration

This registration option is available if you are entering first year in the Faculty of Science.

If you miss the request deadline or choose not to request a bundle, you can build your own timetable and self-register in your courses. If you sign up for this option, but you don’t like the course bundle we register you in or if you change your mind for any reason, you will still be able to Swap sections and/or Add/Drop any courses on your own after your registration appointment opens, if seats are available.

PLEASE NOTE: The list of courses selected for this early registration option does not include all the first year science courses that Faculty of Science offers. If the courses you want to take are not on the list, you can register them on your own once your registration appointment opens.

What courses are available for this Course Bundle Early Registration option?

The courses list will be updated.

How to Request Course Bundle Early Registration

Around mid-May, you will receive an email from the Faculty of Science with instructions to request a bundle of courses for early registration.

Before requesting your course bundle, you should consider which specializations you are interested in applying to in second year and review the requirements for admission to these specializations.

*Invitation emails to request 2025W course bundle early registration have been sent to new BSc students. If you did not receive an invitation and were expecting one, after checking your spam/junk folder, please reach out to gateway@science.ubc.ca.

If you have already submitted your course bundle request, but changed your mind and want to withdraw, please email us at gateway@science.ubc.ca to confirm your withdrawal.  We'll then delete your requests from the system.

What to Expect after Requesting a Course Bundle for Early Registration

Students will be grouped based on similar requests and then registered into a bundle of courses together. We do not guarantee early registration into every course you request. We will inform you of the results of your course bundle request, giving you time to plan accordingly for the additional courses you will need to add to your course schedule. You will be responsible for self-registering in those additional courses once your registration appointment opens.

During and after your registration appointment, you can add any additional Science or non-Science courses to complete your timetable. If needed, you will be able to de-register (drop) one or more courses in the bundle on your own in Workday once your registration has opened.

Please be sure we can communicate with you
All communication will be via the email address in your UBC records. Please ensure this information is up to date and check your email regularly.

Bundled Courses and Saved Schedules

In preparation for registration, you may have created a saved schedule in Workday for when your registration appointment opens. It is possible that the course bundle you’re registered in can include some of the same courses or time conflicts.  If there are any conflicts, you will not be able to use your saved schedule in Workday to register when your registration appointment opens. You may encounter alerts and error messages.

Resolve Conflicts Before Your Registration Appointment Opens:

  1. If you have already created a saved schedule, remove any courses that we early registered for you from your saved schedule. For example, if CPSC_V 110 is one of the courses in your course bundle, you need to remove CPSC_V 110 from your saved schedule if you included it in either Term 1 or 2.
  1. Ensure that your course bundle and saved schedule course selections match your optimum course load.
  1. Check for course conflicts in your saved schedule.
  1. Adjust your saved schedule to be free of conflicts. If you cannot find any course section for your additional courses that have no conflicts with your course bundle, you may have to drop or swap section for 1 or more courses in the early registered courses first after your registration opens (See Step #5 below).

When Your Registration Appointment Opens:

  1. If needed, swap or drop sections in your course bundle that are in conflict with the other courses you plan on taking.
  • For example, if CHEM 121 Section 1A1 is one of the courses in your course bundle, however it conflicts with another course in your saved schedule. You can decide to swap to another CHEM_V 121 section if it fits better in your overall schedule, or drop CHEM_V 121 Section 1A1 altogether.  However, please be mindful when dropping and/or swapping course sections. If you drop a section and decide to add it back or register for another section of the same course, a seat may or may not still be available in the course.
  1. Once your saved schedule is free of alerts/error messages, you can then register for courses from your saved schedule.
  1. Complete these steps for both Term 1 and Term 2 because you must register for each term individually in Workday.
