Applied Statistics and Data Science Group
ASDa--the research support and general statistical consulting group of UBC Statistics at UBC--helps researchers and industry with a range of data analytics needs. The group helps manage, clean and wrangle data to a form that is ready for analysis, provides analytics through data visualization, exploration, modelling and interpretation, and boosts capacity and fills specific gaps in client skill sets.
Biostatistical Research Group
Provides a focal point for faculty and graduate students who develop and disseminate methods for data analysis in the health and life sciences. Activities include methodological research, collaborative research, consultation, and support and service to the broader biostatistical community. The group co-operates with related agencies and efforts: clinical trials and health promotion centres, the BC Ministry of Health, the BC Cancer Agency and other clinical research organizations and agencies.
Forest Products Stochastic Modeling Group
Forest products have a complex variability and, as a biomaterial, are inherently stochastic. FPSMG is a leader in studying the properties of wood products, working to develop engineering standards, monitor for changes in product properties over time, subset selection methods for species grouping in the marketing of lumber, and the duration of load effect in construction. The group is made up of statisticians and collaborating scientists at FPInnovations Vancouver, and funded by NSERC.
Game Theory and Decision Theory Group
GTDT has made significant contributions to algorithmic game theory, multi-agent systems, mechanism design, decision processes and planning. Research problems attacked by this group are of great importance to e-commerce, auctions and advertising.
Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences
PIMS and its partners are committed to connecting the private sector to the expertise in mathematical sciences research. These bridges are built with industrial problem solving workshops and mathematical modelling in industry workshops. PIMS applies mathematics to seismic and medical imaging, financial mathematics, and complex fluids through summer schools, cross-industrial meetings, and industry short courses. The institute also connects academics working in geomathematics to industry.
