Two UBC Science researchers elected to Royal Society of Canada

The Royal Society of Canada has elected 89 new Fellows, including a UBC physicist and a chemist.
Astronomer and astrophysicist Gary Hinshaw is an expert in cosmology and cosmic background radiation. His work at UBC focuses on exploring the large scale properties of the Universe: its origin, evolution and ultimate fate.
Organic chemist Laurel Schafer is a Canada Research Chair in Catalyst Development (Tier II). Schafer is a leader in the field of catalyst discovery, designing new catalysts of relevance to the pharmaceutical, agrochemical, fine chemical and petrochemical industries.
The Royal Society of Canada fellowships are the highest academic accolade in the sciences, humanities and arts bestowed in this country.
