New materials researchers receive funding boost from JELF

A UBC quantum materials expert and a photonic and electronic materials researcher have received $935,000 in funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF).
Sarah Burke, a researcher with UBC’s Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute, received $800,000. Burke studies electronic and optoelectronic processes in nanoscale materials from the atomic scale up.
Chemist Zachary Hudson, who received $135,000 in funding, focuses on the development of photonic and electronic materials to address issues of sustainability in chemistry and materials science.
The Government of Canada JELF investment totals more than $52 million in 220 new infrastructure projects at 51 universities across Canada. A total of fifteen UBC projects received JELF funding.
