UPDATE JULY 10, 2020: THE SCIENCE PDF TRAVEL AWARD COMPETITION HAS BEEN UPDATED TO SUPPORT ATTENDANCE AT VIRTUAL CONFERENCES. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR NEW ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.

Due to the current situation related to COVID-19, several restrictions have been put into place related to both domestic and international travel. To help ensure the health and safety of our postdoc community, the PDFO will not be awarding PDF Travel Awards for domestic or international travel until further notice.

However, many conferences have transitioned to a virtual format. To better support postdocs in continuing to attend these virtual conferences, the Science PDF Travel Award eligibility criteria has been amended to incorporate these alternate-format conferences.

Approximately two awards of up to $600  are allocated, three times a year to postdocs who have been accepted to present their work at virtual conferences. UBC Science and the Postdoctoral Fellows Office within the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will jointly contribute two-thirds of the allocated award towards eligible travel costs contingent on one-third of the travel expenses being reimbursed by departmental or research funds.

The next application deadlines are:

  • January 15 for conference travel between January 15 and May 15.

  • May15 for conference travel between May 15 and September 15.

  • September 15 for conference travel between September 15 and January 15.
