Research at UBC Student Success

Student Success offers a comprehensive guide on study and research skills. Includes information on tutoring (in-person or online), peer help resources, and a research skills workshop listing.

UBC Libraries

There are many libraries on campus. The Woodward Biomedical Library houses books on topics such as medicine, biology, and psychiatry. The Main Library has materials on some of the hard sciences, such as chemistry, physics, geology, math, and engineering.

Subject Librarians

You're not on your own when it comes to finding the research materials you need. There are reference librarians who can help you find what you need. You can also contact individual Subject Librarians to help you find information on whatever topic you are interested in. Don't be afraid to approach library staff for help.

The UBC Writing Centre offers non-credit writing courses to those who want to improve a wide range of academic, professional and technical writing skills. That includes dedicated courses on scientific writing and writing for graduate students.

Language Proficiency Index Help

The LPI tests an individual's competency in English. See the ARES site for further information. The UBC Writing Centre offers numerous free writing programs, including a tutorial clinic, an online writer's workshop, and programs on various other writing topics. If you're interested in getting more in-depth practice for the LPI you can take one of the Writing Centre's non-credit courses.
