The UBC Science mentoring program is available to UBC students primarily interested in Life Science Research. All specializations in the Faculty of Science are welcome to apply although students are not guaranteed to be matched with a mentor in their specific field of study.
The program pairs third or fourth year students with graduate students, alumni, faculty and industry professionals in the surrounding Vancouver area. Mentors offer students advice, guidance and support as their mentees make career choices in their respective fields. The program provides participants with a structured relationship from which to learn, access UBC support for mentoring/career coaching, participate in networking opportunities, and learn about on-going alumni resources. In turn, these students have the opportunity to provide their first and second year peers with direction to help them navigate their first few years of study in UBC Science.
New features are constantly added to the program, including the creation of a student-led steering committee, an expansion into new departments within the Faculty, the establishment of Mentor Awards for long-term service, and the inclusion of graduate students into the program.
If you are interested in applying to become a mentor with the Science Mentoring Program please complete our Mentor Application Form.
