Co-op, Go Global Exchange and Global Issues

Science Co-op

Co-operative education is a great way to gain practical work experience in your field of study. UBC Science Co-op coordinators network with employers to provide students with the opportunity to alternate paid, practical work experience with their academic studies.

Students must apply for the Science Co-op program, and go on their first work term by second or third year. Students can work locally, nationally and internationally. Co-op does add a year to your degree, but can shave thousands off your student loans and gives you an edge competing for jobs after graduation.

Go Global: International Learning

Imagine studying marine biology by the Great Barrier Reef, learning about international development in a service learning project at an AIDS hospice in Swaziland, working with a cutting-edge tech firm in Singapore, or taking part in bio-medical research in Sweden. Go Global allows UBC students to attend one of over 150 partner universities for up to 2 consecutive terms while remaining registered at UBC.

Visit the Go Global website to learn more about UBC's partner universities, how to apply, and how the programs work. Students continue paying tuition and student fees to UBC and remain eligible for UBC awards, scholarships and financial aid.

Study Global Issues

You don’t have to leave Vancouver to broaden your horizons. As part of the University’s focus on global citizenship, UBC offers a variety of courses on some of the pressing global issues of our time. The LEAP website offers a summery, as does the UBC international site:
