Grad students in math and zoology take UBC Governor General’s Gold Medals

Zoologist Adam Ford and mathematician Niki Mavraki have been recognized with UBC Governor General’s Gold Medals for their outstanding academic work.

The Governor General’s Gold Medals honour the best in the graduating class within UBC's Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. There is only one award for approximately 1,000 Master’s graduates and one award for more than 300 doctoral graduates.

Ford has received a medal for his doctoral degree research on the interactions of predator and vegetation biodiversity in Africa. He is currently a Liber Ero Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Guelph.

Mavraki has been recognized for her outstanding record in a Master’s degree. Mavraki investigated variation of the canonical height in a family of rational maps, contributing to an area that has long been of interest to mathematical scholars. Mavraki is continuing her graduate education at UBC as a PhD student.
