University of British Columbia students and postdoctoral fellows in the fields of geochemistry and quantum sciences have received grants totaling $3.3 million from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

The NSERC Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) grants, each worth $1.65 million, will offer practical training and research opportunities for young researchers at the UBC Faculty of Science.

The two new CREATE programs – QuEST: Quantum Electronic Science and Technology and MAGNET: Multidisciplinary Applied Geochemistry Network – join four other existing UBC Science programs.

UBC’s CREATE grants are part of a $28-million investment for 17 projects announced today by the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for Science and Technology, in Ottawa. Since the program’s inception in May 2008, UBC has received 10 CREATE grants.
