Graduate Students
Second Undergraduate Degrees, Dual Degrees, and Diplomas
Science as a Second Undergraduate Degree
Students with a recognized undergraduate degree may be eligible to pursue a major bachelor of science or the Integrated Computer Science program as a second degree. The pursuit of General Science, Integrated Sciences or an honours program as a second degree is typically not permitted.
Various departments in the Faculty of Science have special requirements (such as having your program approved in writing) and you are encouraged to consult with the appropriate advisors early in your program.
Admissions
For a major second degree, students must complete a minimum of 60 credits at UBC while enrolled in their second degree program and must satisfy all Faculty of Science and program requirements.
All upper-level faculty and program requirements must be met through second degree credits only. Specific program requirements completed prior to commencement of the second degree may not be repeated, and must be replaced by additional courses in order to satisfy the 60-credit and upper-level requirements.
The remaining degree requirements and course prerequisites can be satisfied by any combination of first and second degree credits. Students with limited background in their chosen program may find it necessary to complete more than 60 credits to fulfill all degree requirements. Students will not be permitted to undertake a second degree program that overlaps significantly with studies for a previously granted degree.
Since no transfer credit appears on the transcript, students admitted to a second degree must consult with the Faculty of Science and the appropriate department regarding specific second degree requirements prior to commencing their program.
Any second-degree student who has not completed the English requirement upon admission must complete it within the first 30 credits completed at UBC.

Dual Degrees in Science
Students in the BSc program can pursue a dual degree program in Science and Arts or Science and Music.
These programs offer qualified students the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science and a parallel degree in most combinations of one Science major and one other major program. Students cannot pursue a double major or minor in either faculty. Most combinations can be completed in four and one-half to five and one-half winter sessions.
Students must satisfy all of the degree and program requirements for both one major in the Science degree and one major in the Second degree.
Admission
Students do not apply prior to admission, or even while in first year. There is plenty of time to make academic plans.
Admission to specializations within UBC Science may be competitive and admission to the dual degree program does not imply future admission to particular specializations. Acceptance into the program will be determined based on a review of both the applicant's transcript and a statement of academic purpose. Entry into and continuation of a dual degree program requires that the student remain in good academic standing. Dual degrees are not open to students with a previous degree.
Diploma in Meteorology
This intensive one-year program in theoretical and applied meteorology is designed for students with little or no background in meteorology who want experience in environmental applications or to work as a meteorologist.
Admission
Admission usually requires a bachelor's degree in physics, applied mathematics, engineering or a similar discipline. Students plan individual programs in consultation with the Atmospheric Science program—the diploma program requires a minimum of 30 credits of coursework in atmospheric science.
