Organization
UBC Science is organized into nine academic departments: Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, Mathematics, Microbiology and Immunology, Physics and Astronomy, Statistics and Zoology. Together with colleagues in other faculties, UBC Science delivers BSc programs in eighteen discrete disciplines, four innovative interdisciplinary programs, and offers a number of ways to combine study across disciplines.
People
UBC Science is immensely proud of the individuals who make our community. They contribute a wide range of skills and expertise to the Faculty’s collaborative atmosphere—making UBC Science a truly unique place for research, teaching and learning.
Undergraduate Students
More than 6,700 students are enrolled in our undergraduate programs, including more than 400 international students. Female students make up 52 per cent of our undergraduate students.
Graduate Students
Enrolments in UBC’s graduate science programs have increased by over 30 per cent over the past five years to 1,196. Female students account for 36 per cent of graduate enrolments, and international students account for a 33 per cent.
Faculty Members
UBC Science comprises 78 female and 315 male full-time faculty members. That includes 178 full professors, 89 assistant professors, 78 associate professors, 36 instructors and 12 lecturers. Also, 53 sessional lecturers help teach our students. Almost 300 post-doctoral fellows and research associates work in laboratories affiliated with UBC Science to advance a vast spectrum of research endeavours across all fields of science.
Staff and Researchers
The Faculty employs 449 people in administrative and research positions. This includes clerical and secretarial staff, management and professional staff, as well as research assistants and technicians.
